In Vancouver tutoring has grown to become a part of many student’s academic learning plan. At BASIRI we believe that tutoring must serve to enhance students’ skill, not just help them complete their homework or cram for a test. Whether the student needs help strengthening their math foundation or to practice their reading and writing skills, productive tutoring significantly boosts performance and provides students with a learning strategy that they can use on their own in their future learning.
We strive to ensure that BASIRI students learn the necessary skills they need to achieve learning and success on their own. Many high school graduates today are not ready for the rigors of university or college, let alone their future employment. The founder of BASIRI Tutoring, Mehrnaz Bassiri is a contributing writer for the Huffington Post and her article, Your Teen Probably Isn’t Prepared For University, received over 100 shares in just the first few days after being published. Many parents are concerned about the lack of consistency and standards in their children’s schools.
Working with the right tutor or tutoring company helps students learn the skills that are absolutely necessary to master. These skills include:
- Achieving mastery in the process of learning. There is a lack of standardization in Canadian schools. This means that a student’s grades are determined by how easy or how hard their specific teacher is. Easy teachers give A’s to students who may not necessarily deserve them and vice versa. So instead of focusing too much on the grades BASIRI Tutoring will help students to master the process of learning so that they can apply it to future learning situations.
- Learning to fail successfully. Failing is a necessary part of learning, however, many students don’t know how to fail. Failing doesn’t mean to avoid the course you are struggling with or to accept that you’re not good at it. This is not how successful people use failing in their journey. Successful people use failing to work harder and practice longer. Many BASIRI Tutoring students who were doing poorly in math and did not enjoy it have gone on to major in math related fields after they put in the extra effort to improve and started to enjoy the course.
- Embracing testing and assessment. With the constant cuts in the curriculum content and Provincial Exams students are less engaged in testing and assessment. Although tests have received a bad reputation in the last few years they are absolutely essential in the process of learning. How else will students know what they have learning and where their learning gaps are? Also learning is only achieved when you can use the material who have learned (or think you have learned) and can apply it to answering questions. At BASIRI Tutoring we place a significant emphasis on testing and assessing our students to ensure that they have learned the content.
